Next, I placed a call to PCT (Primary Care trust) in my locality to ask for a clinic, and a lady there gave me a clinic's number on getting my postcode.
Operator: Hello
Me: (Fastly repeating what I said earlier)
Operator: We dont cover that area, I'll give you
Seri-nu andha number call panninen, looks like that was some organization helping the residents to locate clinics (but adhane PCT? therila!), and avanga innum 2 clinic numbers koduthanga.
Angayum call pannen, and repeated the same stuff, and fortunately the lady said they do take in patients from my area. Appada-nu moochu vidaren...and she says, "but we cant give you an appointment until 6th April"..I was thinking this was some medical appointment, and I asked her if I shouldnt be registering first for which she replied, "Adhukudhan kannu appointment"!!
Ada paavingala, registration-ke oru appointment, adhuvum adutha masam!!

If (touchwood!) you get small case of jala dosham which requires a little more attention than a Vicks Action 500, you have no doctor to go to until next month ?? That really is kodumai ! :)

When I first landed in the US, health insurance, was a new concept to me. And I still dont know what the deal is about having a 'Primary Physician', I just go to the Urgent Care, you dont need an appt, its just walk-in. :)

Once i had semma ...ache,and asked for an appt. i was given dates almost after 2 mnts..i asked her what if i died by then..The operator was rude..she was like..Thats how it works here..Me go :-( :-(

Yes, India is very good regarding facilitating Out Patients and In Patients admissions and Doctor consultation. But India is not too far away from 100% sophatication. But one thing good about these countires are that when its an emergency, an accident u can find help in minutes.

Hi Usha...first time here. Nice post. The same kodumai prevails here (Botswana - Southern Africa) as well! Atleast fr us its relatively ok but guess what they adopt the same policy for kids too which I think is absurd. The baby will be in pain & periya pist madiri they wud say come on a much later date (& thats sometimes even a month later!!!!!) Phew!

but if you have any serious problems you can walk in to Accident & Emergency (A&E is what they refer this). Anga ponalum ithe kodumai thaan...3/4 hours wait pannanum...Someone told that only if you are bleeding you will be attended immdly. But I was bleeding with an injury and there too I had to wait for 2 hours.
But once you get admitted(they admit only if its serious) appuram royal treatment kidaikum. Nalla saapdu ellam kidaikum :)))

As dubukku says, try getting dentist appt. My wife had to wait for 7 mths to have her tooth extracted..

If you are met with any accident or injured and in need of emergency 911 dial panni adutha 10 min u will be taken to hospital (same thing in UK too)

Ethana uyir naama national highways laa thudichu sethuiruku theriyuuma..There is no concept of immediate action to victims namma orula..
These ppl have priorites set properly.

logic - not sure which you regard as against law I presume A&E wait? lol unfortunately thats the life here :-( As said before only cases like accidents etc etc are attended immdly. Even there if you meet with an accident and you go to hosiptal on your own...gaali again wait thaan..but if you get attended on road there will be an ambulance to take you in.
In essence bcos of the waiting numbers only very serious problems are atteneded immdly others have no other option to wait and pray.
